King's Christian College is committed to teaching students how to establish relationships which are grounded in love, compassion, reconciliation and justice. We do not tolerate ideas, behaviours and beliefs which marginalize or victimize people.
Bullying behaviours are about an imbalance of power where there is a deliberate intent to cause harm or distress. Bullying takes many forms, all of which will cause distress. These behaviours takes many forms which include: hitting, pushing, tripping, kicking, spitting, teasing, using offensive names, ridiculing, exclusion and threatening to take someone's possessions.
- Endeavour to provide a safe, secure environment for teachers, students, staff and visitors
- Endeavour to provide a supportive environment, which encourages positive relationships between students, their parents/guardians and teachers
- Educate students about bullying, tolerance and prosocial behaviours through curriculum, devotions, chapels and the Peacekeepers Program
- Respond to all reports of bullying within the school community
- Reject bullying behaviour. Taught not to accept any form of bullying.
- Not tolerate bullying behaviours within their friendship groups
- Talk openly about bullying
- Not be a bully themselves
- If they see bullying taking place, tell someone they trust
- If they are bullied tell someone they trust eg. parent, teacher, peer support leader or staff member
- Listen to the story. Discuss any incident with their child. Listen to their feelings and opinions
- Support your child. Talk through the situation and agree upon what action will be taken. Assure them that they have done the right thing in reporting the bullying incident
- Do not attempt to sort out the bullies yourself. This may worsen the situation
- Make an appointment with the Principal or the Principal's nominee. Without an appointment the school may not be able to investigate the situation.
- At the meeting calmly present the concern and explain that you are hoping to work out a solution with the school's help.
