Student Services / Careers / Work Experience

The benefits of undertaking work experience cannot be underestimated. You will find that prospective employers always highly value work experience, especially if it is related to the position you are applying for. Generic work experience can help you demonstrate that you possess the kinds of transferable skills that employers are seeking.

The benefits of work experience are:

  • Give you practice in applying and interviewing for jobs
  • Help you clarify your career options and aspirations
  • Improve your resume
  • Give you experience that you can discuss during interviews
  • Provide great networking opportunities
  • Lead to a job

King's Christian College supports work experience students during the holidays, after school and sometimes during school hours. If you are a student at the school and would like to participate in work experience, follow these four steps.

Steps to participating in work experience

  1. Download the “Find your own work experience” form
It is often more beneficial to find an employer that you know; it may be a family friend, your local hairdresser, your family vet…these people will often make more effort during the student’s work experience time.
  2. Once you have completed the above form give to Mrs Wood at least 2 weeks before your planned commencement date.
If you cannot find work experience employer see Mrs Wood and she will try to arrange work experience.
  3. Once Mrs Wood has the work experience employer’s details a “Form C” is completed and signed by: the student, the parent / guardian, the college principal and the employer. This form covers the insurance requirements.
  4. Once the form is completed copies of the form are distributed to all parties. The student then rings the employer to introduce themselves and arrange specifics.
